Enhanced Care Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question? We’re here to help. Explore some frequently asked questions below and contact us if your question isn’t here.
What is Enhanced Care and who lives in Enhanced Care? What are the benefits of Enhanced Care?
What conditions or health issues might someone have that would benefit from Enhanced Care?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Diabetes, Obesity, Complex Conditions, Paralysis, Parkinson’s Disease are some of the common conditions that we see in our Enhanced Care neighborhood. These are often conditions that have greatly impacted the individual’s health in many ways. You certainly could still have these conditions, not need Enhanced Care or any personal care services, and live fine on your own.
How would I know if I needed Enhanced Care vs. Assisted Living?
There’s not a simple or exact science to when you need Enhanced Care. You may choose Enhanced Care over Assisted living if you wanted a lower staff to resident ratio. Enhanced Care may be a better option financially if you’re a la carte personal care charges were more than Enhanced Care costs. If you have more complex care needs or heavier cares (2-person transfers, high chronic care needs, higher medical needs without having daily skilled nursing needs), it may be better to consider Enhanced Care over Assisted Living. You may also consider a short-term stay in Enhanced Care if you or a loved one has: Exceeded a Medicare-paid rehabilitation stay but needs more care before returning home; need to give their caregiver a break from caregiving; need for a peaceful, supportive environment for hospice and end-of-life care.
What are the alternatives to a nursing home or skilled nursing facility?
We believe that Enhanced Care is a great alternative to a nursing home or skilled nursing facility because it offers a more home-like environment. You may also look into Home Care but that can get pricey and staffing is not guaranteed.
Why would I choose Enhanced Care over Skilled Nursing?
You would choose Enhanced Care over Skilled Nursing because you have your own private apartment, the warm home-like environment. If you wanted your own skilled nursing services but wanted to live in Enhanced Care, we do allow you to bring in your own skilled nursing care and can provide resources on who to hire.
Are Care Suites and Enhanced Assisted Living the same thing as Enhanced Care?
Different name, same thing. Communities differ in layouts and environment. What’s included in their offerings, prices, and programming varies, but the concept is the same.
Do you offer care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?
Yes, our trained resident caregivers/resident assistants are awake care staff that are present 24 hours per day and 7 days a week.
Can residents in Enhanced Care have visitors?
Yes, they may have visitors as per any of the other residents in the building. As this is our residents’ home, we welcome visitors and work with family and friends to find a time to visit their loved ones when it works best for them.
Can I live with my spouse in Enhanced Care?
Yes, you may live with your spouse in Enhanced Care.
Are Enhanced Care suites private rooms? What does the living space and suite look like or include in Enhanced Care?
What is the staffing care ratio in Enhanced Care?
Typically around 1:6, but it does vary our current Enhanced Care residents’ needs and the number of residents we have at any given time. There is always a trained care team member that is dedicated to that location.
Do you offer care conferences and, if so, who goes?
It depends on the situation, but every 6 months to a year, or as the care needs change in the individual. Care conferences are attended by the primary head nurse. However, you are welcome to request a care conference at any time.
Will my loved one receive one-on-one attention aside from personal care needs?
We have Activity Directors that create a full calendar of events for social wellbeing. Occasionally, we have volunteers at Riley Crossing as well that enjoy spending time with residents that would benefit from that.
Is there a Registered Nurse in the building and will be caring for my loved one?
There is a Registered Nurse in the building 40 hours per week. Additional nursing hours may be available on-side during select awake hours. There is an on-call triage nurse 24 hours per day.
Does Medicare cover Enhanced Care?
No, Medicare does not cover Enhanced Care. There are funding options like Long-Term Care insurance that our Outreach & Sales Director can walk through with you to see if there are any additional payment options available to you.
How much does it cost to live in your community and what all is included? How does the pricing structure work? Do furnished apartments cost more?
Can residents in Enhanced Care have pets?
Yes, residents in Enhanced Care may have pets. If you are comfortable caring for your pet and they are an appropriate pet for the community setting, we would love for them to join our Riley Crossing family. Guidelines apply.
Do residents in Enhanced Care get to see other residents in the building or get recreational activities? Will they get to spend time with Riley Crossing Child Care kids for Intergenerational Programming?
Yes, residents in Enhanced Care participate in activities, outings and regularly scheduled programming as well as interactions with Riley Crossing Child Care.
Is there PT/OT and Speech Therapy offered in Enhanced Care? Do you offer music therapy?
With admission and changes of condition we would have nursing, PT, OT, ST, SW and Hospice/Palliative care evaluate and treat as needed.
We do have musical entertainers in our community often but do not currently have music therapy in-house.
Is Hospice Care available in Enhanced Care?
Yes, you can bring any outside hospice provider into Enhanced Care.
Would I ever need to move to a nursing home?
A change in level of care does happen at times, normally that happens when there is a skilled care need, or your needs exceed our supervision, or you need 1:1 care.
Do you have doctors that come to visit residents in Enhanced Care?
Yes, we have a Bluestone Physician Group that visits our community on a regular basis to see patients of theirs in our community.
Why would I move to a small suite when I have a large home with home care?
Having to manage the maintenance and upkeep of a larger home is stressful. With Enhanced Care, you get a homelike environment, can manage the smaller space and live life comfortably — the whole 9-acre community is your home.
